DAYBED

2024

At first glance, this daybed appears to trace a simple, almost silent line. Conceived as a contemporary bench, its wooden structure forms a clear and stable base, supporting a tatami that adds comfort while immediately evoking Japanese imagery and a close relationship to the ground. The textile cushions, intentionally removable, transform the daybed into an open system rather than a fixed piece of furniture. They slide, shift, accumulate, or disappear, allowing for an infinite variety of positions: low seating, reclining rest, reading, napping, or simple contemplation. This modularity encourages an intuitive, almost instinctive use, where the body determines the final form. Balancing modernist rigor with domestic softness, the project aligns itself with the legacy of daybeds by Charlotte Perriand, retaining their material honesty, constructive clarity, and attention to everyday uses. The Japanese inspiration goes beyond an aesthetic reference: it is expressed through flexibility, visual lightness, and the ability to transform space throughout the day.
